On topic, nothing to do with Mages. Just a select few idiots, the problem is that the mages in game have easy access to power and some choose to use it. Anders betrayed the player's trust for little gain or without good reason. Solas is a liar and lied his way to trusting people and trying to fix his own mistakes. It's a shame I couldn't get rid of him from my party as I would have.
Solas' views on nearly everything was wrong and he showed little care about other people's of Thedas.
