Heya everyone, it's Cloudman, taking a small break from postin' and battlin' to talk about something else, this time weird games in the industry.
Usually among the gaming community, people often talk about the best games, worst games, most graphically impressive, best story, characters, music, and so on... But what about the strange ones, games that leave you at awe or just confused at what you're looking at, sometimes bringing laughter or even unsettling feelings? Have you encountered a game like that? Well, I sure have... : )
I don't know where or when I came across it, but such a game did come in my radar, and that was LSD Dream Emulator. Not to be confused with the drug, LSD Dream Emulator was released only in Japan, 1998. It's a game about exploring your dreams and encounter strange things in them. First off, you start in your room, which looks like a small standard Japanese house, but touch any sort of object or wall, and you're teleported off. Where to? Who knows, but here's just a few samples...

These are just a sample of the weird things you'll see in this game.
What you can do in the game is, well quick frankly, just walk around. You don't fight anything, talk to anything, or have anything to do... You just walk around and explore as much of your dream as you can see. If you get tired of the world you're seeing, just touch something and you'll be off to another place! It's interesting what you'll find, but can also be kind of unsettling. You can find yourself in dark alleys or cities with just the sound of dripping or other sounds. You may even see people, or animals, or worse...
There is one enemy though. He can be anywhere. He can be infront of you. He can be behind you. He can appear...

Right in front of your face! This be the Shadow Man. What his goal is, I'm not sure, but he chases you in your dream. He follows you, slowly and randomly. When he'll appear is unknown, but the further you explore and remain in the dream world, the more likely you'll see him. When he finally gets you, the dream is over. You just wake up. But that thought of this man coming after you, slowly creeping, is pretty terrifying, like a creepy stalker chasing you down.
Aside from exploring your dreams, sometimes you get weird videos of walking in town or shopping or even just a message shown to you (in Japanese). I think there is about a year's worth of levels, but I'm not sure. I didn't get too far into it due to time and wanting to play other games, but what I did play, well... Man, what a trip..!
Well, that's my story of the weirdest game I have ever played! You can actually get this on the Japanese PSN store. Granted it takes a little effort to do it, but I did it! So you can too, if interested that is ; ) Got any weird games you've played? Go ahead and talk about it. I'd love to hear more about other weird games.
PS - Honorable Mention! - Parodius games, Super Famicom!
- The weirdest and one of the greatest shooters you can ever play... : ) What other game let's you play as a flying penguin, a bunny girl on a rocket, a flying cat, or even a man on a paper airplane?! None others I can think of...? And you can attack Island Tiki heads! Just... awesome..! : )
