I think sales will be good enough for a sequel. But the studio themselves and Sony might not like that idea, and thus cut them short of a sequel. Why?

The studio may be disheartened by the bad press and decide that a different franchise is the way to go.
Sony might put them back on minor games, because they succeeded very well there.

I doubt RaD or Sony will be put off making a sequel if the sales of this one justify the investment in a sequel. In fact if they get ~2 million in sales for a game that get a metascore in the 60s I think they would be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of keeping what was great about this game and tweaking what was not great to make a game that would get a metascore of 75-80. That should get a sequel a good 4 million in sales, possibly more.

The only time a developer is disheartened is if the metascore is low and the sales are low. If film/TV/music/game makers actually took reviews to heart they would stop doing what they do and go work in McDonalds. They only really care about reviews to the extent that they affect sales/audience numbers. Do you think the people who brought us the abomination of 50 Shades of Grey care that critics have panned the movie to the extent that even the positive reviews are only givig faint praise? Hell know, they are laughing all the way to the bank because the movie has already made hundreds of million of dollars.
