EDIT: Nvm, should have kept on reading, you researched, lol. Also, the PS3 can act as a media center too and have videos and music and photos streamed to it. Also, yes, you can stream HD content to it. I'd recommend having your PS3 hooked up by ethernet though...huge lag for me when using wireless. At least in my case.
OT: I believe the one about reseting the video output is in the manual...that's what I remember finding it from at least. Because I take it from my HDTV in my living room to the CRT TV in my bedroom all the time...and the first thing I remember reading on how to reset my video was the manual.
