It's one of the reasons why I want to evenutally learn japanese and just buy stuff straight from japan with no editing or translating. Any of the stuff that gets streamed here using crunchyroll is unedited I would imagine but I don't trust the translations. 

I was more referring to nowadays. Older stuff had problems like having to broadcast on TV during daytime hours and 4Kids. The anime market was pretty small in the West and distributors had to localize it to make it not so offputting to Mainstream audience. Nowadays, there's a strong streaming market that focuses on accuracy rather than mainstream perception. Dragonball, for instance is now only available as its uncut form. If dubs are your issue, Sentai rarely does dubs and Funimation always has the options for sub. The only issue is Aniplex, who tend to do dub only on a number of their licenses and overprice.  Stuff like Doraemon and Pokemon are still dubbed very radically (but no censoring scenes more than Japan) to be culturally streamlines and easily shown during the Saturday morning lineup. These were kids stuff anyway so there isn't much loss. 

On the topic of Crunchyroll translations, they are for the most part pretty straight translations. There is some meme stuff in place of usually some sort of Japanese slang. Literal translations would have issues in properly indicating ideas. For instance, this season Funimation is streaming Absolute Duo. The two main characters literally translated would be Toru and Yuri, however, the localized names are Thor and Julie. This is to properly communicate some central characteristics like Julie being from Scandanavia and not russian like the literal describes. Thor is because of a concept with him being like Thor, the Scandanavian god. Funimation is significantly better with translations than Crunchy but, has poor streaming codec. The DVDs and Blu-Rays are fine though
