Might & Magic got killed by the Heroes of Might & Magic fanbase. Twice. First when they forced New World Computing to revise the ending of Might & Magic VII (making the good guys win instead of the bad guys and introducing the Conflux fraction instead, because no futuristic references in our Heroes of Might & Magic series) and then again when hailing Ubisofts HoMM V as the grand savior of the series, killing off the whole original NWC Universe and it's unique lore.
Shooters in general. I loved playing shooters in the 90' when they didn't took themselves seriously and instead invoked Rule of Cool (especially Duke Nukem and Serious Sam, which turned it up to eleven and ran with it). Nowadays shooters seem to have to be absolutely dead serious and completly straight faced to even get developed. No more killing hordes of ludicrous kritters with even more ludicrous weapons while dodging incoming fire and collecting Medpacs, ammo and even bigger guns.
Melee elitists. 'nuff said.
