It is still a very strong indicator, but what you say is true. PS4 owners tend to be older and more likely to buy from the internet (let alone have a credit card). The same demographic skew gives the Xbone a huge holiday advantage, with parents buying the console for their kids.
Despite this, it's such a strong indicator that it still has not been wrong as an NPD ranking prediction tool so far this gen.
