Kirby being weak and slow in his games are game mecanics. I mean, Samus doesn't look like she's running at supersonic speeds with the Speed Booster after all, but the game manual says so, so she is.

Kirby is a game character first and foremost, so one should look there. Kirby can't even suck in a lot of things (let alone an energy blast powerful enough to destroy planets). His biggest accomplisment is beating a tree. :p

Samus is still ten times faster than Kirby or Kratos when she activates her speedbooster. She's fast in the 2D games, Kirby is slow in pretty much every game.

Actually, I've played Triple Deluxe, and he does suck an energy blast powerful enough to destroy a planet. And no, if we always look at gameplay mechanics first and ignore lore, then most game characters would look stupid. Most RPG characters would have to wait for their turn, and that's not how it works, right?
