How many Kanji's, (Japanese words ) should i learn if i want comfortably play Japanese import games or non English translated games.

I have a quite unorthodox way of learning japanese. Basically, I buy a Japanese game, and I translate all the kanji in the dialogue as I go through the story part. Darn tedious. But after I got through the tutorial part ( which took a month ), I could recognise many words without translating. Well, only after I had a good grasp of hiragana and katakana though.

You don't have to worry only about kanji if you want to understand it completely. You also have to look at the verb conjugation.
