I said last night before I left I expected some interesting numbers following the PR and here we are. Really poor for the industry going forward.

There are no good numbers here. I dont get why anyone is trying to spin this as positive for ANY of the consoles.

WiiU: Yeah an increase, but it is posting abysmal numbers month in month out.
ONE: An increase sure, but not a big enough one. Poor numbers.
PS4: Big drop regardless of the irrelevant nonsense about supply last year. This is the supposed "dominating" console of the gen and it is posting very mediocre numbers.

For comparison:

Wii, Jan 2008: 274k
PS3, Jan 2008: 269k
360, Jan 2007: 294k

This will be a much smaller gen than last gen in the US and probbaly globally. When are people going to accept this?

One of the worst January's ever? Possiby THE worst? I'd have to check, but it sure feels that way.

Noses meet coffee. I hadn't checked 2nd January numbers for 7th gen PS/Xb before today. The fact that the best selling console of this generation is 70K behind what was considered to be a monumental f&#k up of a console destined to be a distant 3rd place (at the time) should surely be a huge wake up call to people that the 7th gen was the peak generation for consoles, even without factoring in the Wii fad. Assuming Nintendo does go for a 2016 9th gen entry, this is likely to be a pretty short generation. Which will mean a struggle for PS4 to reach 100 million in the timeframe, and a struggle for Xb one to get past 50 million. MS isn't going to be all that strongly motivated to extend this generation like they were with 360 if they are just managing to be on par (at best) with PS4 in UK and USA and getting crapped on everwhere else. And Sony isn't going to give both MS and Nintendo a year or more free hit at the 9th generation.
