Square Enix has trademarked "Square Soft" and "Enix" in Japan

Oh. Well I just turned 30 and I remember Squaresoft being that goto company for JRPG games in the 1990's. Enix was never nearly as big in the Western hemisphere as Square was though Dragon Quest was popular enough for the sequels to keep coming. Ironically, the first game I played from Square wasn't a Final Fantasy game at all. It was Rad Racer on the NES. When Final Fantasy came out, I wasn't quite old enough to fully understand how RPG games worked so I watched my older brother play the first game until I was eventually able to play it.

Given the differences between how Enix performed in Japan compared to the West, I was surprised to find that when Square and Enix merged, it was Enix who effectively took over Square, although I later understood why this happened.
