In Sony's financial report just released Sony pictures was the only division to not make a profit , and iirc hasn't for quite a while it is very seasonal and a very capital intensive business so you have lots of money tied up much like the games division where a few big hits every year pay the bills, but way more expenditure with out the saftey net of money from other sources that the games division has , having said that it is still a large part of Sony and will recover it justs needs a big summer blockbuster.
