If I were you I wouldn't assume it will skip Wii U because it skipped N64.
Plus, N64 would be the 4th console to have a Metroid game if it was done. There were games for the NES, GB and SNES. And after N64 there were GBA, GC, DS, and Wii games, so if it really had a pattern, Wii would be the one skipped.
I'm pretty sure they'll announce a new Metroid game sometime this year (Most likely E3), and launch it on 2016.
