"It looks like the effects have warn off" or something and it doesn't even make sense. Also, the editorials frequently have unpopular opinions. Sometimes the editorial writer writes a follow up article insulting the readers! This happened with a 'is this really next gen' type article a year ago. So, I think the articles just aren't up to snuff. No reason for commenters to be nice.

You get out of it what you put in I guess. Still the community should be above that and should within itself manage the quality of its own posts/comments.

Most of the community ARE above it in the sense that the articles are one of the least popular things on here and get very few comments. The people who take the time to comment are mad they read a poor article, and everybody else is just hanging out in the actually worthwhile sections of the site or reading actual articles elsewhere. And people are rude everywhere, especially when things suck.
