It was for me. I work in retail for I didn't have to wait at all but had to get a bundle I didn't like. Anyway, it was so worth it with the Wii. There were a couple dozen Wii Parties at my home and I had a great time at almost all of them. It was also great taking it to other peoples' places.
I never bought another console at launch and may never do it again so I guess the answer is, it depends.
