Gamepur.com said: "Microsoft Xbox Division Boss in a recent Major Nelson Hryb's Podcast talked on lot of interesting things about Xbox One: "Fall 2014 line [sic], what's coming in Holiday Season 2015 and the recent price cut of Xbox One for a limited time period". (1) Phil Spencer stated that the line-up for Xbox One for Fall 2015 looks "Crazy" and this the upcoming which is just few days away is pretty good time for Xbox One to compete against Sony's PlayStation 4.
Coming to the Xbox One price cut which will be available for limited time (till Holiday Season 2014), Spencer stated that it's a Big Move from Microsoft and its pretty good time for them to go out and compete.
Microsoft surely had a pretty great start for Holiday Season 2014, Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive was very well received by critics and fans, and the upcoming line-up is also pretty interesting (especially Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Halo 5: Multiplayer beta and other third party titles)." |
Here's an article with the quotes, since nobody else was providing a source. So the bolded are comments I'd like to go over, but he did in fact state that they had too many games releasing for fall of 2015, not necessarily the rest of the year. However, there's some massive spinning in my opinion going on. Corellating this to my earlier post about him being a salesman and being good at decieving the average consumer such as yourself.
(1) 'Recent price cut for a limited period of time.' So... the first thing that shows good ol Spence is still up to shady MS tactics - Let the customer percieve what others would call a price cut as a Limited Offer. Doesn't that phrasing sound kind of familiar...? Similar to what they're doing right now which is a 'limited offer'? IE The Vanilla SKU discounted $50. But it's not a price cut guys, we're doing this as a one time special offer for the gamers, by the gamers.
(2) This parts interesting. He makes it appear as if the software lineup for 2015s holiday season is so jampacked that they'll be forced to delay some first party titles in favor of flooding the market... But uhm, wait Microsoft. What about the other 3/4ths of the year? You could always move some of those extra games that way right? Ordinarily that would make sense. Keep sales steadily flowing, maintain consumer satisfaction, maybe even spawn some killer new IPs along the way. But that can't happen if none of these exclusives weren't completley developed before the year ends anyway. I think that this is just his way of spinning 'Our software lineupe is relatively weak this year and we don't have many exclusives available' >>>into>>> 'We have TOO many exclusives available so we'll just delay half them to next year to make us look better'.
(3) My only comment on this is that he specifically points to flooding the retail channels before it actually happens. Anyone remember the recent Microsoft financial reports? Either the tracking here at VGChartz was way off or MS literally STUFFED the channels with overstocked inventory. Now, how many of you have seen anecdotal evidence of pallet loads of X1s at your local WalMart, Target, Best Buy, etc? Again, go back and read that third bolded comment that Spencer made before the holiday season was in full gear.
