THat Apple uses them is a good thing for now. THe problem is that Apple is not loyal to its compnent providers. THey often use them for one or two generations and jump to the latest and greatest to provide a different thing. So, they may only use these sensors for 2-3 years. Of course, Sony can still supply them to other cell makers for the lower end phones over time. |
I just went over this already, who is Apple going to go to?
And at the number of 3D stacked TSV cmos sensors that can mprovide such production other than Sony?
Do you really think Apple or Samsung is going to wait for another company to hope that it can match Sony's production level, and do it cheaper?
Thats what im pointing out, its not happening anytime soon
You I think are missing the main problem is pointing out "well they only use such and such for a few years" the problem is no other company that make 3D stacked TSV camera CMOS sensors is anywhere near Sony's advancement, you do know this took decades to even get this far with a large number of engineer's.
So who will be able to offer is as cheap as Sony? Remember the cost sharp and others had for a single Blu-Ray Diode vs what Sony was able to offer to the companies? The fact is Sony has invested into development with this method, and Apples and Samsung requires such thin CMOS sensors, that it would be quite a while before they mostlikey change if ever they do in near future is very unlikely.
Hell Apple has had a Sony CMOS camera sensor since the iPhone 4s it was Omnivision and Sony. Now its just Sony from iPhone 5 on.
See back in 2009 Sony was the first company to overcome very large 3D Stacking TSV on CMOS Sensors past 5MP and do it cheap enough for other companies, note that has been since 2009! Its 2015 now think about that for a 2nd.
