Sony still has Sony Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital, Sony Japan as their backbone of internally created studios. Sony could easily put Sony bend to work on games no different than Ready at Dawn because essentially both teams worked on their PSP games. It looks like the Order is going to be an initiation game. If it sells well Ready at Dawn will be brought into Sony most likely as first party since they've been a second party developer for Sony's second party games primarily made by Sony Santa Monica. Sony Japan co-developed the souls series and is also responsible for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Naughty Dog's artistic approach was changed to Sony's viewpoint of doing things once they were purchased and instead of using them to make fantasy games, Sony instead used Naughty Dog to usher in third person shooter exclusively on Sony's brand. God of War for its era was considered highly cinematic for a hack n slash game, carrying that tradition over to the PS3. Killzone was made for Sony upon purchase. Sony Santa Monicas pedigree is highly noted and that one company is worth five of Microsofts (also considered one of the top developers in gaming, period). Look at their list of titles that they've worked on. They can do everything from Indie to AAA. Sony has more internal studios, but those three are the only three that need to even be spoken about for the internally created companies. MS has one that carries their AAA. One studio. Studios aside, Microsoft has to purchase intellectual properties just to pose a threat to the competition. Halo, Gears, Minecraft, The Rare catalogue? Not even Sony and Nintendo are that desperate. |
1 Sony studio = 5 of Microsoft's. I don't even think people at Sony have a distorted view like you do.
