There are exceptions. One of my playthroughs of Fire Emblem Awakening was with female Robin, mainly so I could see some of the other supports.

Online games I would stick to male characters. I think this one time when I was playing online, I had people give stuff to me when I was using a girl skin on my character. I`d prefer to avoid weird moments like that.
