Sort of. But games, unlike movies, have a bigger distinction between the good and the bad. They might introduce the gimmick or the extra-extra Polishness GOTYs have to please the critics, gamers or whatever to the gameplay or story that can make, break or just improve the game ever so slightly yet it's not like GOTYS the past few years followed a pattern and all they shared was good gameplay and story.
