Really? Do people really buy a game (that they were not going to buy originally) just because it is exclusive?

Absolutely.

Exclusivity had potential to bring status, status has potential to generate hype, hype has potential to reach more people.

It can both make someone want to have it because of its status and make more people aware of its existente by being more hyped.

People tend to want what other people also want. If someone doesn't know or want something but see a group that want it, it can actually start to generate a feeling of curiosity or integration and make he want it. One move alone but also tend to go where the most people are going.

The question is what numbers would justify it being exclusive generated actually more sales than it being multiplatform.

Really low numbers in one system are an indicator it might be a good move.

Hmm, that's an interesting theory. But it is really hard to back it up with numbers. Like, for example, if you look at the top 5s on the PS4, PS3, X360 and X1, you'll see that all of them are Multi-platforms.

Even more so, the alledged power of exclusivity was not enough to help great games like: Uncharted, MGS4, The Last of Us, God of War etc, to enter (not even) the top 10 on the PS3.

And about those numbers being really low on the X1...  well, I'm actually surprised it did that well on the PS. So I dont think those are really low numbers if we take into consideration the price and the content we were getting for it.
