Critics are pickier this generation than last generation. The other problem is that Metacritic has become a joke and is not a reliable way to tell someone if a certain game is good or not. Heck, it counts many scores from B.S. sites such as Quarter To Three. A lot of reviews who actually review don't have their scores counted. Plus, these "mediocre" scores did not stop millions of gamers from enjoying the games you've mentioned. But I digress, what is your point when you claim that The Order is going to be critically panned other than that you think it will happen?

The MLB 2K series was discontinued because it just plain sucked. 2K Sports (not Take Two) did not want to lose any more money on a failing series. It was ultimately a business decision. The MLB fanbase may be more niche than other sports fanbases, but it's there and it is growing. A 40% increase YOY is hardly insignificant.

That said, your comments haven't really contributed to the discussion at all. All I see is pure dismissal without valid explanation. Heck, you even got the developer wrong.

take two is the owner of 2k sports... and 2k games... they're subsidiaries.

as for the metacritic thing. i think we need to separate sales from whether a game is good. and we also need to separate hype on the part of the playstation fanbase and hype from people who just happen to like good games, irrespective of who the publisher or developer happens to be. there may be rabid anticipation in some quarters for the order 1886. you may share in that anticipation. the gaming press that has gone hands on with it has ranged between hating it, being confused by it, and saying it's a mediocre action game. if reviews no longer matter, why does sony trumpet them whenever their games get good reviews? because they create positive hype which in turn drives more sales. this game is going to do badly critically. people buy all sorts of stuff; they may well buy this too. that is no statement on its quality as a game.
