Its such an ignorant statement though. Videogames stem mostly from japan, and its a huge and respected part of their culture. And artists who started out as illustrators and painters, also work in the video game industry.
For his mom, and now himself, to encourage video games as a waste and not important to the entertainment industry, would be like me saying music is a waste of time, if i would chose to focus on becoming a lawyer or whatever.

I don't think that's what he was implying. He mainly meant his mom never let him play video games so that it didn't distract him from practicing the guitar. He did later say that he wanted to play FIFA.

The implcations within his statements are strong ;--p video games can bring inspiration, ignite creativity in other fields of aet and entertainment.. As i have seen musicians these days actually reference quite strongly.
The implcation that playing videogames would deter from making good music, and not a valid source of inspiration to draw from is an ignorant thing to believe. His ignorance is particularly strong when citing fifa and gta to be his knowledge of games...
Well, his music is like fifa to the gaming industry, bland uninspired, basic and boring ;--p
