Its such an ignorant statement though. Videogames stem mostly from japan, and its a huge and respected part of their culture. And artists who started out as illustrators and painters, also work in the video game industry. 

For his mom, and now himself, to encourage video games as a waste and not important to the entertainment industry, would be like me saying music is a waste of time, if i would chose to focus on becoming a lawyer or whatever.
