Islamic Caliphates Brought Prosperity to Jarusalem During Middle Ages

Jerusalem is an important city for 3 different religions. When muslims took over the city, why is it surprising if they tried to make it beautiful and rich?  The Jews and Christians would do exactly the same thing.
