Probably because most of the buyers were parents looking for a cheap holiday deal for the kids. It says Xbox on it, comes with mutliple games, it's $349 or lower = good enough. Problem is this is a really fickle type of customer that's only good for the end of the year.

This is exactly my thought. I imagine the COD marketing exclusivity deal might have helped a bit as well. But overall, the only plausible explanation for why the XBO was handily outselling the PS4 in November & December but has gone right back to being outsold by the PS4 this month is due mainly to "casual" holiday shoppers looking for the lowest price tag on a machine that'll play all the big third-party games, likely non-gamer parents buying systems for their kids. Hell, my parents bought me a Sega Genesis instead of a SNES back in Christmas of '91 because it had a lower price tag, even though they knew I was a huge Nintendo fan. But now that it's back to mainly just gamers buying systems now, PlayStation is still carrying strong momentum and a healthier brand name. Pricing is important in determining how well a system sells, but it isn't everything. All other things being equal, the cheaper system should always win, but things are rarely equal.

I was pretty much dismissed, when I said this then lol.
