Fixed, Sony and Nintendo exclusives will stay exclusives

It's not about exclusives. It's about the future. If Microsoft first-party games are being released PCs, what is the difference between an Xbox and a PC? They use the same operating system, they play the same games. Xbox is just a brand. It's like a Steam Machine.

You know what else runs on that operating system? Windows Phones. Uh huh, yup. Only a matter of time before we start to see Ryse etc. ported to Windows Phones. Maybe MS will brand one the "Xbox Phone," and people will debate whether it counts as a handheld console because MS wrote "Xbox" on it. It doesn't matter, because when Ryse 2 gets a simultaneous release across all Windows platforms, and it has to be scalable enough to run on everything from a high-end PC down to a several-years-old Windows Phone...

Sony has already hinted that PS5 will not be a physical console, but more of a program that can run on a variety of hardware. Most likely including PCs, Smart TVs, and mobile devices.

Welcome to the future of video games. Nintendo is looking more and more like our last line of defense against an all-mobile industry. Now look at the Wii U. Scary, huh?
