I honestly think that will be the first price drop.  The costs of the system has dropped significantly since launch.  With a die shrink, $299 should still be profitable.  I expect the price to happen to counter Microsofts holiday fire sale.

Anyone else think that the gap closing was due to the hype sorrounding the "Microsoft Event" that just ended, and because it wasn't worth being hyped is back to normal.  The timing is about right.

Me too, I'm expecting Sony to dropped the price around August and killed any momentum xbox one could have around holidays, though microsoft will probably cut the price even further and since they can't compete at the same price, we could see xbox one at 250 if that happen.
