This is exactly what could make the One a failure, last gen the best years were 5-6 if this gen is to be much shorter then the best years need to come alot earlier, PS4 has managed this and may beat PS3 numbers, but if X1 doesnt manage it this year it cant possibly be a success compared to its last gen counterparts.
