Tribes that is. In the North, there was the tribe of the "Germanen". In the south the tribe of the "Alemannen".
Then there was a tribe called the "Angelsachsen" which went and conquered England. Not to be confused with the current day "Sachsen" which are all evil communists, or were.
Deutsch I think is a later word, but dont really know.
