Nothing Nintendo will do to its console will make it more popular. Only software will.

While I agree that software or the lack of it (3rd party) is the main reason for the low sales numbers I really think Nintendo could reach a bigger audience by having an sku without the gamepad. I have several friends who would buy a Wii U if it just came with a pro controller and was priced at $199.

@Mike_L tell your couple of cheap friends to put up or shut up. The Wii U and it's library is well worth the standalone price of 299 or any of the bundles with the same price. Everyone needs to stop all of this "without the GamePad" crap. The Gamepad is used in a less intrusive way than people think. Those who don't like the Gamepad are the ones who haven't tried it. If serious gamer tried a Wii U for a week they would have no choice but to admit it has the best games out right now. You either buy it or you don't. People need to stop trying to be backseat corporate board members. Nintendo has board members and just because you play games doesn't mean you know how to manage a company like Nintendo. Both Microsoft and Sony have attractive systems but the library is slim. They both promise a lot but have not delivered on a world changing experience. Most of us have to admit the games aren't spectacular and if you own a PS3 games like GTAV and TLOU aren't a life changing jump. The quality of games on the Wii and Wii U are night and day. The Wii U has backwards compatibility and more control options than any systems. If up to the individual user of they think its for them, but a remodel is not necessary.
