I mean, they had a right to be cocky, the were destoryinng Nintendo and Microsoft, combined, times 2. You're right though, they got too cocky and made some terrible mistakes with the PS3. They recovered nicely enough with the PS3 but they must have learn their lesson.

No, they made profit on both. Nintendo has to split their development and hardware teams in two to support their systems, so there's no point to seperate the two. Besides, Sony has PSP (which includes 2004-2006 of the PS2 era) and Vita and they still don't make as much profit as Nintendo.
