Gas is 1.89 in my area, what are the ripple effects of this era of cheap gas in America?

diesel is so cheap in germany that the fuel cost of the smallest diesel golf is cheaper thn for the E-golf...
(well, 3,2L per 100km is hard to beat...) and the price of 10kg of potatoes just dropped to 1,89€ at some major supermarkets...
