You are forgetting that they aren't just saving 50 cents by excluding it, they also make a few dollars for selling them separately.

true, true.   i still am of the opinion that the monitary value to nintendo is not worth it compared to the brand damage of unhappy customers.  you could take the wii to wiiU transition as a for instance.  happy customers are returning  customers.  unhappy customers are not.
