So, we are starting to get a better understanding of who is going to be running for president of the united states now.  So I thought I would make a thread for people to give their thoughts on how it is shaping so far.

I'll start out with the easier party, the democrats

Candidates:

Hillary Clinton: Former Secretary of state, Senator from New York, presidential candidate, and first lady

Joe Biden: Current Vice Presedent, former senator from Delaware.

Martin O'Mally:  Governor of Maryland

Howard Dean: Former Governor of Vermont, presidential canidate

Elizabether Warren: Senator from Massachusets

Probably others, but nobody serious

My thoughts, it seems like the democrats have already given Clinton the nomination.  Of the people on this list, Elizabeth Warren is probably the only one that could threaten Clinton in a primary and while people keep trying to draft her into the race, I think it is very doubtful she will run.  The Democrat's primary seems like it is shaping up to be nothing more than a victory lap for Clinton.  No serious obstacles here for her to overcome.

Republicans aren't nearly as settled

Candidates

Mitt Romeny:  Former Governor of Massachusets, 2012 republican presidential nominee

Jeb Bush:  Former Governor of Florida, Son of George H.W. Bush and brother of George W. Bush.

Chris Christie: Governor of New Jersey

Rand Paul: Senator from Kentucky

Marco Rubio: Senator from Florida

Mike Huckabee: Former Governor of Arkansas, presidential candidate

Scott Walker: Governor of Wisconsin

Rick Santorum: Former Pennsylvania senator, presidential candidate

and a lot of others, but their chances seem unlikely

My thoughts, I am incredibly surprised that Romney is moving towards another run, especially after this encounter...  I don't think he will be able to get the nomination again.  Romney did say some things, mostly foreign policy related, that ended up coming to pass and made him look prophetic, but I think he is a terrible candiate.  He has a ton of baggage from stupid things he has said like the whole 47% of the population are reliant on government handouts thing.  He just came off fake all the time, and he ran a terrible campaign.  I see Bush having the similar problems.  He is probably the best of the Bush's as far what kind of president he could be, but I think the other Bush presidents have ruined any chance he might have.  He would also have a hard time getting through the republican primary process... Christie has bridgegate and is far too blunt to run a national campaign, this will probably be more of a warm up for another attempt in four years for him...  That leaves most of the more conservative candidates, which I think they will try to go with a more conservative option this year.  Rubio and Walker seem like the likely upset candidates that will make it through the process...

Overall, I think this ends up being an easy election for Clinton to win.  The republican primary is going to be a bruiser.  Whoever the eventual nominee is... they are going to be incredibly damaged.  Clinton is just going to stroll right into the presidency next year... What do you guys think?
