What is it about the gaming industry that makes them believe they are entitled to a share of what I make when I resell a game or when a 2nd hand shop sells the game? I bought it, it belongs to me. Any money I make from it afterwards is mine as they already got their cut when I purchased it. I can resell a car, a movie, a book, a CD, my dining room table, etc... but somehow THEY believe they are the ones who deserve a chunk of a resell. I hate it. I'm just glad this gen is safe and hopefully next gen as well. Growing up with gaming it just feels like they are actively trying to spoil things for everyone. |
IMO its because games are something that can be controled(unlike your dining table) and is more expensive than anything else that is digital. It works both ways though. Publishers see it as we are losing x amount of profit on a $60 game wne resold. (Many) Consumers see it as, Im not going to pay you $60 for a digital game that I cant trade, lend, etc. If the car makers and table makers could get a cut of your used purchases they would.
I have grown up with gaming as well, but the industry that was once owned by gamers and computer enthuiasiasts is now owned by stockholders and businessmen. The people that run the gaming industry dont care about games or gamers(many have likely never played a proper video game) just the amount of money they can take from them. Indys are what the gaming industry was, but they will never have the resources to put out anything near what the businessmen do.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
