Listen to Richard Harris' version of "McArthur's Park". If you understand what the "cake" is (that's not a reference to Portal) you don't need any advice.
If you don't understand what the "cake" is then just do what you want as long as you're not intentionally hurting someone else. Some people are giving you very bad advice.
In this case the cake is not a lie, it's something much different.
