Ok Ive been wondering this since like last week. I am black and I live in Canada. While there is close to 1 million of us, we are still a visible minority. Knowing Canadas racist past (slavery, native americans) can I say I am proud to be Canadian?
Same goes for an Aboriginal. After all the shit they have been through, you know small things like getting their land stolen, being sent to residential schools, can they say they are proud to be Canadian?
What about an African American. Segregation, Slavery, etc etc, can they say they are proud to be American?
Oriental-Canadians have been discriminate (Canadian Railway) in Canada, can they say they are porud to be Canadian?
Mexicans are called illegal all the time lol, can they say they are proud Americans?
Ok you get the point
I can say Im proud to be Canadian, but I will also say im ashamed, because of Canadas pas.
What do you think?
