When you are number 1 you don't drop the price. Sony keeps their cards...

Well, the PS2 was #1 the U.S. every month from 2001-2005 except for Nov. & Dec. 2004 due to a PS2 Slim shortage, yet it received three price cuts in that span. The first was in May 2002, which busted it down from $300 to $200. Except for the Wii, every major console released in the past 20 years has received a price cut before its second anniversary. I do expect the PS4 to receive a price cut some time this year, and when it does it's going to get a huge boost, price cuts being the single biggest and most consistent booster of sales there is.

Nice charts.

Thanks!

I think what WebMaster meant was that there's no rush for Sony to drop the price since its already outselling the competition at full MSRP.

I'm sure there will be a price cut this holiday but it won't be because of XB1 or Wii U, it will be because Sony is confident the drop in hardware profits will be made up from increased software sales, PS Plus subs and increased marketshare.
