The controls are perfect. What makes the Souls series "difficult" is the fact that enemies will not relent when attacking in groups (unlike games like Assassin's Creed) and that death has a meaningful punishment, whereas most games just make you restart from a checkpoint.

The game itself is not "difficult"; it just makes you think twice between hurling yourself at bosses. no holds barred.
