1. Our media is not "unbiased". Every paper and channel has some kind of leaning, most of them just don't make it outrageous. There isn't a media outlet in the world that isn't biased in some way.
2. We are not powerful anymore. We used to be but now we have serious delusions of grandeur.
3. The government is pushing businesses out of the country with high taxes. Shire Pharmaceutical have just announced they're following Yahoo, Experian, Kraft and Shell out of the country and BP and GlaxoSmithKline are about to do the same. The last thing businesses are going to do is bring jobs to the UK when any profits they make are immediately taken by the government.
