Basically Sony got the price right and didn't include peripherals people didn't want. Then to top it off, it got all the 3rd party games people wanted to buy. (there is no great exclusives on MS or Sony)
Kinda makes you wonder if Nintendo had went with just the wiimote plus the pro controller and a beefier system, close to xbox one levels, at a $350 price point if it would have done significantly better considering Nintendo also has first party titles.
We'll never know if Nintendo could have gotten 3rd parties even at a higher power level and/or if the self-proclaimed core gamer could over come the brand image of Nintendo... but I'd buy it day one just like I did the current Wii U.
