Agreed. I have never powered through an RPG for story if the battle system is awfully. I have powered through a story is the battle system is great. Case in point is Grandia Xtreme, the weakest title in the series, but the battle system is still sublime.


That's good, but it's the opposite for me, the generic gameplay that Suikoden 2, FFVIII, FFIX never bothered me nor liked it but the main and side stories was what pulled me to playing RPG's during the day. RPG's now I find it to be too focused on flashy moves and gameplay(Tales Series/ FFXIII-2 became QTE gameplay) that after I got to the point of the game where it gets really boring with no story to back my motivation in continuing the game. Well that's how I feel about it atleast.
