I don't understand. Don't you already have IPTV? Or is it just a European thing? I have IPTV for about 6 years, I didn't realize it is something innovative. |
It is not innovative and has been around for some time outside of the US...
...but here in the States, PlayStation Vue would be the first of its kind. In the US, our media conglomerates have been resisting TVOIP forever in an attempt to lock us into the cable companies. The companies charge high rates for sub HD service and equipment fees. Comcast charges $40 a month for standard broadcast channels and a converter box. Standard Cable (non HD) is $69.99 a mouth (before taxes and equipment fees) and if you want their Digital Perfected (HD) package it's $107 with HBO. And it doesn't stop there. You will be paying more if you want Internet service or sports packages.
So in the end, it's not just about the tech, it's about the fact that even if Sony charges $50 a month, it will still be much cheaper and more channels for a ton of folks.
