Did you play Dust an Elysian Tail ?  Pulled off a lot of great aspects of Metroidvania really well.  One of the better Super Metroid clones I have played in a long time.  Guacamelee was pretty good too.

Just got Guacamelee in the Steam Secret Santa so I'm really excited to get into it!
