Korean artist Yoon Mi-Rae is suing Sony Pictures for use of her song “Pay Day” in the controversial new movie The Interview without permission.

Yoon Mi Rae’s record label Feel Ghood Music has admitted they were in discussions with Sony to let them licence the song, but no terms were ever agreed on.

“There were initial discussions for using ‘Pay Day’ in the movie, but at some point, the discussions ceased and we assumed that it would not follow through,” a Feel Ghood Music representative stated. “However, after the movie was released, we learned that the track had been used without permission, legal procedure, or contracts.”

They added, “We will be taking legal action against Sony Pictures as well as DFSB, the agency that had been carrying out the discussion regarding the use of the track.”

The Interview: a comedy film by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg that depicts the assassination of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un finally opened to limited release across the US recently after the entertainment giant was threatened with hacking attacks. It is now Sony’s highest grossing online film ever; earning more that 15 million from online sales & rentals alone.
