Everyone copies someone else. It whether or not they improve on the idea or simply add the feature that makes it acceptable to me.

Example, Nintendo didn't create waggle. However they reinvented its use and created a very unique experience on Wii. Sony simply copied motion from MS and other 3rd party controllers for PC. Part of the reason the sixaxis has no good implementation in ps3 games.

Didn't waggle and gesture based stuff really start with the eye toy?

Nope. That started waaaay before that... with some Atari thing. Also, the Power Glove.

Really? I thought the Eye Toy was a brand new thing, though it must have been the first with the camera

Nope, and well... No. the first camera for a home console was the "Dream Eye".

For... you guessed it. The Dreamcast. It was supposed to have games much like the Playstation Eye did but well the dreamcast failed, so Sony took the idea and made it their own.

Which itself was just taken from numerous arcade games.

The Eyetoy was just another idea Sony coopted and called their own.

It seems like nothing these days is original.... apart from the inclusion of blu-ray (was the PS2 first with DVDs?)

Yeah, i believe it was the first one with DVD playback. It might of been the first one with CD playback too. Not sure if the Dreamcast offered that or not.

There were Dreamcasts that played audio and video media, but i'm not sure if the official models involved media playback.
