DS still has potential. I don't think it would be called 3DS 2, though, it would son very weird. Maybe the next console could be named HDS or something of the sort, since I think that could be more appropiate but stilll it doesn't sound good enough IMO, so I think it will be interesting to see what will Nintendo pull for the 9th gen.
