I think we're confusing casual with family friendly here. The Wii was more casual than PS3 and 360, but PS4 and Xbox Juan are more casual now probably, since Wii U's casual offerings failed miserably. The Wii U is still more family friendly though.
Anyway, to answer the OP, I don't think Nintendo are going to abandon their path any time soon. If anything, they're more likely to go off on ever weirder tangents, like QoL.
