Is Nintendo doomed to be a casual console maker?

I never really considered Nintendo to be a casual console. Other than a Wii abberation, I think Nintendo home consoles are actually purchased mainly by hardcore gamers that are also fans of Nintendo games. Both XBox and PS are more casual consoles.
